TEFA School Selection: Choose with Confidence

As families move forward in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) process, selecting a school is one of the most important next steps. While the application window may have closed, choosing the right educational partner ensures your child is set up for success, and that your TEFA funding can be applied smoothly.

What to Expect During School Selection

Through the TEFA dashboard, parents can easily select or update their child’s school at any time. The process includes:

  1. Navigating to your child’s profile
  2. Selecting “Change School”
  3. Choosing a participating private school
  4. Reviewing and saving your selection

If you do not see the school, you are looking for, we recommend reaching out to the school directly to confirm they are an approved TEFA provider. In some cases, schools may be listed under a slightly different name or exact spelling. You can also use the map feature within the platform to zoom in on your area and locate your preferred school.

While this step is simple, it plays a critical role in ensuring your child receives funding. It’s also important to note:

  • Selecting a school does not guarantee admission, you must still complete the school’s enrollment process
  • Your selection does not impact eligibility or priority within TEFA

Why Your School Choice Matters

TEFA gives families the flexibility to choose a private education provider—but not all programs offer the same level of consistency, curriculum, and care.

At Children’s Lighthouse, we are proud to be an approved TEFA provider, offering families a trusted, high-quality early education experience designed to support both learning and character development.

A School That Supports the Whole Child

Choosing Children’s Lighthouse means selecting a program where learning is intentional and meaningful.

Our proprietary curriculum, including BRIGHT®, CARES®, and Lighthouse Pathways®, is designed to support every stage of early development. Through our 3E approach, Explore, Experiment, Exercise, children engage in hands-on learning that builds confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking skills.

Rather than simply preparing children for the next grade, we focus on preparing them for life.

A Reliable, Year-Round Solution for Families

One of the biggest differences families notice when selecting a school through TEFA is consistency.

Unlike traditional school schedules that include frequent closures, Children’s Lighthouse provides:

  • Full-day, year-round care
  • Coverage during school breaks and holidays
  • A dependable solution for working families

This consistency ensures children continue learning without interruption while giving parents peace of mind. Families can feel confident knowing their child is in a nurturing and supportive environment every day.

Key TEFA Deadlines to Keep in Mind

To ensure your funding is processed without delay, be mindful of these important dates:

  • June 1: Initial deadline to select a school
  • June 15: Schools confirm enrollment
  • July 1: First round of funding available
  • July 15: Final deadline to select a school
  • July 31: Final enrollment confirmation

Selecting your school early helps ensure a smooth transition into the upcoming school year.
