Children's Lighthouse Potranco and in Helotes are unique in that they are some of the few educational childcare facilities to be owned by experienced educators rather than investors. Both master educators, Ken and Diane Kay have nearly fifty years of shared classroom experience. Having had the fortune to educate children of all ages, as well as provide education and training to their fellow teachers, the Kays are passionate about providing every parent and child at their center a world-class early childhood experience.
Holding a master's degree in special education, Diane is a reading specialist with a superior understanding of phonics-based instruction, which allows her a unique perspective of how to best implement Lighthouse's innovative C.A.R.E.S. curriculum. Mrs. Kay spent more than ten years teaching the first and second grade in inner city schools, and designed and implemented a reading program for struggling students. She also held the position of math and science technology coach, in which she taught other teachers how to enrich their classroom instruction using technology. She has brought this passion for technology to Children's Lighthouse by ensuring that all preschool rooms have a special emphasis on computers, to provide students with a competitive edge in a society where technology is becoming ever more present.
Ken worked as a music director for students of varying ages. Following his time working with school-aged children, Ken taught auto mechanics and worked as a curriculum developer for the Division of Adult and Career Education. While working with both the State and Federal Departments of Education, Ken was responsible for the development of more than four hundred courses, including advanced instruction in early childhood education. This experience lends him the exceptional ability to streamline curricula while determining how to tailor lesson plans for individual students.
Now setting their sights on creating the warmest early educational environment in the San Antonio area, the Kays have brought their combined skill sets to Children's Lighthouse Potranco and in Helotes. The Kays strive to provide nothing but the best to every family that walks through their doors, while ensuring that every child feels at home during their time at school. They encourage you to come tour their facilities and see the best early learning center that San Antonio has to offer!
