Our Values
Character Values are both modeled throughout our centers and taught in our classrooms. Values such as integrity, respect, responsibility, fairness, honesty, caring, self-control, and citizenship are not only defined but role modeled by management and teachers throughout the day. We believe that we can help strengthen the social fabric of our communities and support parents who want their children educated in a strong culture of these characteristics through teaching these values.
What parents are saying
I worked as a professional nanny for 10 years and as a result I am very particular about the childcare I choose for my daughter. This school has surpassed my expectations. The teachers work with each child so patiently and make them feel cared for as if they were their own.
Rebecca I
We love the school and the teachers as well as the admin staff. They are always friendly and there is nothing better than your kids being excited to go and stay at school. Keep up the good work!
Ashli K
I feel so comfortable leaving my daughter at Childrens Lighthouse while I go to work. I know that her teachers love her and will do an excellent job taking care of her. And she loves getting to go and see her friends in her class and going outside to play.
Brittany K
The management at Childrens Lighthouse is so friendly and welcoming, and I can trust that they are overseeing everything that is going on in my child’s classroom. I love that they take the time to greet us when we walk through the door and that I can come to them with any questions that I have.

Infants & Toddlers
Birth to 24 month old babies begin to learn about the world from their experiences with the adults in their lives. Our teachers are trained to use the Comprehensive Infant and Toddler Curriculum which was developed specifically for the education of your baby. This curriculum provides everything necessary for a teacher to create a classroom environment that will have a very positive impact on your baby’s growth and development. It is our goal that all infants and toddlers in our program will be supported by loving and kind teachers who encourage their early development.
Lighthouse C.A.R.E.S. Curriculum℠
Our goal is to nurture the development of each child's full potential - intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically - in an atmosphere of safety and trust.
Character Values Education
Our comprehensive curriculum focuses not only on intellectual development, but also on healthy social and emotional growth through systematic character values education.
Active Engagement
Activities are designed to promote active learning through a "hands on" approach that allows children to explore the world in which they live.
Research-Centered Practice
Learning activities are grounded both in time-honored practice, such as learning through play, as well as in current research findings in the field of neuro-education. "Brain-based" learning strategies, for example, reveal that memory and creativity are enhanced by music, movement, and artistic expression.
Embedded Content
Our fully-integrated curriculum is characterized by thematic units which combine the key skills of reading and mathematics with learning in the content areas of science and social studies.
Standards-based Objectives
Every learning activity is carefully planned to meet or exceed both national and state standards.
Core Values
  • We believe that each child is an individual, with his or her own unique set of strengths, talents, and gifts
  • We believe that every child has a right to excellence in all aspects of early childhood education.
  • We believe in the importance of teaching character values, and more important, in modeling their use in our interactions with children, their families, and one another.
  • We believe in the use of positive discipline strategies that lead children to become self-disciplined.
  • We believe that honest and frequent communication between the school and the home positively impacts children’s success.
  • We believe in the importance of continuing professional development and personal growth through educational opportunities and supportive communities learning.
  • We believe that every teacher and staff member can make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
Children 5 - 12 years of age will have a special classroom specifically designed to meet their developmental level. Elementary children will enjoy our thematic approach using Creative Resources. The lesson plans are developed to enhance their education in a fun environment after school. As children explore the high-interest themes, they will experience subjects throughout the year that will establish concrete knowledge that makes the learning meaningful.

About the Owners
Children's Lighthouse Potranco and in Helotes are unique in that they are some of the few educational childcare facilities to be owned by experienced educators rather than investors. Both master educators, Ken and Diane Kay have nearly fifty years of shared classroom experience. Having had the fortune to educate children of all ages, as well as provide education and training to their fellow teachers, the Kays are passionate about providing every parent and child at their center a world-class early childhood experience.

Holding a master's degree in special education, Diane is a reading specialist with a superior understanding of phonics-based instruction, which allows her a unique perspective of how to best implement Lighthouse's innovative C.A.R.E.S. curriculum. Mrs. Kay spent more than ten years teaching the first and second grade in inner city schools, and designed and implemented a reading program for struggling students. She also held the position of math and science technology coach, in which she taught other teachers how to enrich their classroom instruction using technology. She has brought this passion for technology to Children's Lighthouse by ensuring that all preschool rooms have a special emphasis on computers, to provide students with a competitive edge in a society where technology is becoming ever more present.

Ken worked as a music director for students of varying ages. Following his time working with school-aged children, Ken taught auto mechanics and worked as a curriculum developer for the Division of Adult and Career Education. While working with both the State and Federal Departments of Education, Ken was responsible for the development of more than four hundred courses, including advanced instruction in early childhood education. This experience lends him the exceptional ability to streamline curricula while determining how to tailor lesson plans for individual students.

Now setting their sights on creating the warmest early educational environment in the San Antonio area, the Kays have brought their combined skill sets to Children's Lighthouse Potranco and in Helotes. The Kays strive to provide nothing but the best to every family that walks through their doors, while ensuring that every child feels at home during their time at school. They encourage you to come tour their facilities and see the best early learning center that San Antonio has to offer!
